junior week may. 28, 2026

no monday bc of memorial day, no tuesday bc pizza party so extremely short week

shop tasks

spent all of my time working on things for the shop since the year is about the end.

started by fixing the problem with mr.christy's computer where a portable monitor wouldn't connect to his computer specifically, but works on the others.

spent a lot of time trying to figure out the issues before eventually comparing his computer (l52) with another l52 in shop and finding out he didn't have gpu drivers installed

so that was a pretty easy fix after i found that out. installed the drivers and it worked

fixing / getting rid of computers

mr. christy also wanted us to go through the laptops and see which ones are good for fusion and which ones aren't. we have some p52's, p72s, and l15's which we automatically decided were good, but there were some random x1carbons, one of which was a first-gen from 2012 which definetly wouldn't work well with fusion.

while looking for power cables to charge everything, we found 3 broken l15's that all said "broken battery," and there was also another broken l15 that had a broken screen.

adam helped me fix the broken screen one while i looked into the broken battery ones

we opened all three of the l15's to see if we could get parts to upgrade / fix any of the others. we managed to replace the broken screen, but when we powered it on nothing posted

doner board

turns out there was no ram in that computer.

no ram

i got one of the l15's to boot, but as what the sticker said, it did have no battery... or so i thought.

i left it charging for a bit and noticed it was holding charge. so i guess we have another l15 that is usable.

no battery charging battery actually charges

with that in mind, i tried another one of the "broken battery" ones which also displayed, but couldn't hold charge. (so it should be an easy battery replacement if we want to buy one rather than buying an entirely new laptop)

adam's computer with the broken screen still wouldn't hold charge even after replacing the screen, swapping ram, and changing the ssd and the battery. we assume it has something to do with the mobo, so we decided to change out the entire motherboard from the same laptop we took the screen from (bc adam broke a connection on the doner so we had to swap the entire motherboard)

hopefully all three laptops we fixed will work. if so then that's great because l15's are one of the stronger laptops we have in shop.
