junior week may. 21, 2026

missed tuesday because of the weird schedule so slightly shorter blog post

fusion stuff

spent some time adjusting tools on fusion after cross refrencing what we had through the tools library and the machine shop

also borrowing a 1/2" ball end mill from metal fab that may not be needed in the end. we'll see.

after adjusting my file to have all the tools to be used, i started looking for a piece of stock aluminum

stock

tim helped me find appropriate stock, but we couldn't find any. so we grabbed this massive metal alumninum stock, and using a bunch of random pieces of alumninum, created a lever system to get the stock onto a chair and then onto another chair.

final product of all of the levering

tim next to our finished product

with this done, we moved the stock into the machine shop so we could start cutting it to size

stabilizing the stock on the bandsaw was slightly hard, and tim created this contraption to help stabilize.

bandsaw cutting setup

few accidents came when cutting (blew two fuses and had to reset them + bent the blade because the wood didn't hold the stock in place correctly... whoops)

with that done, we cut it down to around 1.5in thick

however, our bandsaw was unable to cut it, so we went up to metal fab and got that cut to size.

stock before facing and stuff

still gotta face it and measure the stock. after that, i'll adjust the stock size on fusion and then start machining.

adam also helped explain how the tormach mills work during the downtime of cutting the stock in metal fab

moving forward. i'm gonna try to get as much down as possible so i can finish this project before the school year ends. probably 2 more blog posts after this? not too sure, but hopefully i'll be done soon.
